Project Summary
House Haunters is a turn-based rock paper scissors style game where you can fight your way through hounted houses to make a quick buck! Plan out your three moves per turn using the broadcasted information to try and win. You encounter a wide variety of different possessed furniture to fight, including stoves, dressers, lamps, novelty singing wallfish, and more with each house having different enemies each with their own fighting style. After clearing several houses, you can use your profits to unlock special abilities to aid you in combat. And if the regular gameplay is too boring, there is even a hard mode to test your ghost hunting skills!
My Contribution
Theremin. I got to use a theremin. I also got to explore cool textures in orchestration that kept things lighthearted and also serious. I also got to play around with developing the main motif, heard in all of the tracks of the game. I explored a lot of options working with layered ostinatos and different styles of orchestration throughout the different game states, such as adding a different battle theme for when the player is about to complete a task, adding to the intensity that if the player messes up here, that have to restart the house.
One of the challenges I faced was realizing that every team I worked with had a different workflow and a different way of approaching things, especially when it comes to working in Unity. the team that worked on Bewitching Boba had a completely different Unity hierarchy structure than the team that worked on House Haunters, and this was the other game that I used FMOD to implement the audio in. Being able to communicate directly with the team, ask questions, and work face to face with them was such a benefit that kept me from getting stuck on implementation.
